Roope Uusitalo on Helsingin yliopiston ja VATT:n julkistalouden professori. Hän aloitti tehtävässä syksyllä 2018.  

Uusitalo on koulutuksen taloustieteen, julkistaloustieteen sekä työn taloustieteen tutkija. Hänen viimeaikaiset tutkimuksensa ovat käsitelleet irtisanomissuojaa, sosiaalisten taitojen kysyntää ja tarjontaa työmarkkinoilla sekä koulutuspolitiikan muutosten vaikutuksia.

Uusitalo väitteli valtiotieteen tohtoriksi Helsingin yliopistosta vuonna 1999. Hän siirtyy julkistalouden professoriksi Jyväskylän yliopiston kauppakorkeakoulusta, missä hän on toiminut koulutuksen taloustieteen professorina vuodesta 2015 lähtien. Hän on saksalaisen työn taloustieteen tutkimusverkosto IZA:n Research Fellow.
