Child home care allowances and the occupational options of parents with young children
Date of project : 2019 - 2023
The project examines the impacts that changes in home care allowances have on the occupational options of parents.
In particular, the project focuses on the impacts of the introduction of the flexible care allowance. This reform provided increased incentives for part-time work among parents of young children. The project compares changes in the working days of parents of young children with changes in the working days of parents of school-age children. The project also examines whether the parents of young children reacted to the reform by switching jobs or professional fields. The research utilises salary structure and FOLK data provided by Statistics Finland, which are combined with KELA's data on home care allowance payments.
