Tuulia Hakola-Uusitalo appointed to the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council
Tuulia Hakola-Uusitalo, acting Director General and Research Director of VATT, has been appointed to the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council from 5 September 2024 to 30 June 2027.
Tuulia Hakola-Uusitalo, acting Director General of the Finnish Institute for Economic Research (VATT), has been appointed as a member of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council from 5 September 2024 to 30 June 2027.
The task of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council (Finanspolitiska rådet) is to independently assess the Government’s fiscal policy and its success in relation to the set objectives. The Council is also tasked with determining whether fiscal policy meets the requirements of long-term sustainable growth and a high employment rate.
"I very much appreciate this appointment to the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council. This is a traditional institution that has set the example for other EU countries to establish fiscal policy councils. The Council is also the example of the Finnish Economic Policy Council, in which independent economists assess the economic policy of the current government,” comments Tuulia Hakola-Uusitalo.
The Swedish Fiscal Policy Council consists of six members. The Council chairman is Lars Heikensten (PhD, Economics), who has also served as Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation between 2011 and 2020. Tuulia Hakola-Uusitalo is the only non-Swedish member of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council.
