The Centre of Excellence in Tax Systems Research (CoE) carries out research that supports the development of the tax and transfer system. Our research sheds light on the effects of taxation on individuals, businesses and society as well as the mechanisms underlying the financial decision-making of individuals and companies.
The CoE is a joint initiative between Tampere University, the VATT Institute for Economic Research and the University of Helsinki. It selected for the Academy of Finland's Centre of Excellence programme 2022–2029. The centre's director is Professor Kaisa Kotakorpi from tampere university and VATT.
The launch of the Finnish centre for excellence in tax systems research takes place on Thu Sept 1 in Tampere.
The event's keynote speech is held by Professor Joel Slemrod, who is a pioneer in tax systems research. Tax Systems, which he authored with Christian Gillitzer in 2014, is a part of the canon of tax systems research and it has helped to broaden the focus of tax reasearch from tax percentages to tax payer behaviour, tax avoidance, tax evasion, and the regulation and operation of the tax authorities.
At the launch, participants have the opportunity to discuss with the centres researchers both during the events questions and answers section and the cocktail event following the launch seminar.
