Research Professor Marita Laukkanen awarded the First Class Knight of the Order of the Lion of Finland
Research Professor Marita Laukkanen has been awarded the First Class Knight of the Order of the Lion of Finland on the Independence Day of Finland. The decoration was presented to Laukkanen at an internal VATT event on 29 January 2026.

Laukkanen has had a long and distinguished career in central government. She is one of Finland’s leading researchers and experts on environmental and energy issues in the field of economics.
Laukkanen has worked in government research institutes for more than 20 years. She has led and conducted numerous studies that have influenced the development of environmental and energy policies, served as an expert in multiple capacities, and contributed actively to economic policy discussions. She has increased awareness of growing environmental policy challenges and provided valuable critical insights into the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of various measures.
Laukkanen has also supervised and supported many early-career researchers, helping to develop Finland’s research-based expertise in environmental and energy policy.
