Tuomas Pekkarinen is research professor and research leader in the labour markets and education research area. His recent research has dealt with the effects of education policy reforms on social mobility and learning outcomes.
Alongside his work at VATT, Tuomas is an adjunct professor at Aalto University, a member of the Swedish Labour Policy Council in Stockholm and a research fellow in the IZA research network. Tuomas is also on the editorial board of the Scandinavian Journal of Economics. He was previously an academic researcher at the Aalto University School of Business, a researcher at the IFAU research institute in Uppsala and a post-doc researcher at Nuffield College, Oxford. Tuomas has also been a visiting researcher and has taught at Boston University.
Tuomas gained his PhD in economics at the European University Institute in Florence in 2003. In the 2016-2017 academic year Tuomas was on a research visit at the London School of Economics Centre for Economic Performance.
